Against Deep Poverty:

A Rights-Based and Multidimensional Approach

Open Space Association understands deep poverty as a multidimensional condition in which access to a life of dignity is severely restricted and fundamental rights are violated. Within this framework, the Association conducts fieldwork, research, and advocacy to bring the less visible dimensions of poverty to light, emphasize poverty as a human rights issue, and develop rights-based solutions. Its work supports people’s empowerment and resilience, with a focus on social justice, gender equality, human rights, and children’s rights, and aims to strengthen their ability to break the cycle of poverty. By combining solidarity-based models with long-term social policy approaches, Open Space Association addresses deep poverty through a rights-based and multidimensional approach.

PROGRAMS

Open Space Association carries out its work through four main programs.

Monitoring, Advocacy and Campaigns Program

The program brings poverty and related human rights violations into public debate, presses decision-makers to act, and advocates for the implementation of rights-based policies. Its advocacy work draws on poverty research, field observations, and briefing notes.

Local Governments Program

The program works with local governments to strengthen rights-based social policies for combating poverty. Drawing on research and field data, it shares knowledge and experience with local governments and develops policy recommendations to make social support mechanisms more accessible, inclusive, and rights-based.

Support and Social Solidarity Program

The program supports people experiencing poverty in meeting their basic needs through social solidarity and contributes to their empowerment. It organizes workshops and awareness-raising activities on access to psychological support, health care, legal services, and public services.

Institutional Capacity, Visibility and Resource Development Program

The program carries out institutional development work to strengthen the Association’s long-term sustainability. It implements transparency and accountability processes and develops strategies to strengthen the Association’s organizational capacity.
